dc.description.abstract Two different understandings of univerbisation, wide and narrow, confronts the researcher with the question of choosing one of them. The answer to this question is conditioned primarily by the type of language (analytic or synthetic). Also, it is important to consider the material of non-standard language varieties, because the non-codified oral speech clearly manifests the tendencies which are inherent in the language system and which are often constrained by the normative character of the standard language. The material of the Russian non-standard speech presented in online slang and informal language dictionaries and in the “Regional Slang Dictionary” allows you to identify the main types of univerbisation characteristic of the Russian language and to determine some of the conditions for creating univerbs. Such conditions should include, firstly, the nature of the original phrase (its sustainability and structure); and, secondly, the nature of the structure of the univerb itself (whether it is suffixal or truncated). en_US
